Arrowhawk History
The Columbus Arrowhawks first began playing
recreational hockey in 1996 at the newly developed Dublin Chiller. What
began as an extension of the Columbus ski-club team quickly evolved
into a well-oiled hockey machine (minus the well-oiled part.).
Blackhawk golf course owner Jack Groezinger and Arrowhead’s Jim
Groezinger were sponsors of the team. Their stingy, by-the-book
accountant, fearing an ENRON-style accounting scandal, instructed a
combined name for the hockey team. 2 ad agency’s and 3 focus
groups later, the Blackheads were eliminated from consideration and the
Arrowhawks were born. Their brother Jeff, the stingy accountant, was
pleased and the skates hit the ice.
The Arrowhawks lost their first game, 19-0 to a
collection of thugs sponored by Coaches Bar.The wounds haven’t
healed. Their bar has been eliminated from our beer drinking regiment.
