Hawks advance to finals, drop APMR
Team survives poor start with hustle and grit
LEWIS CENTER, OH – The Arrowhawks
weren’t sharp early but they did enough in the first 18 minutes
to stay in striking distance against a very talented APMR team. Seeded
#2 overall and carrying a sparkling 10-2 regular session record, APMR
was poised for a win. From top to bottom their roster was impressive.
Goaltending and defense were their strong point all session. Oh, they
could score too. What happened?
The Hawks eaked out a thrilling 3-1 win. AH.com was
recently sent a copy of an E-mail from two Hawk players:
“...nice, but not easy. We lost our cool in
the first period. Either it was APMR’s bright orange jerseys
throwing us off or we shouldn’t have had the pre-game Japanese
Suchi in the locker room before the game. We were clearly rattled
and not supporting each other. At one point, when Augenstein started
beating Kenyon in the head with his stick like Paul Bunyon on crack, I
thought we were going to lose it. But luckily, Gooch stepped up and
sprayed us all with pepper spray. Thanks Gooch, for your unwavering
support! That really did the trick!
APMR started fast, once again. They scored the
first goal, as Vegas expected, and controlled play early on. Luckily
for us, they didn’t have the manpower to continue the assault for
three periods.
Mark Monahan opened the scoring for the Hawks by
tying the game 1-1 in the first. He did his usual brilliant thing,
skating and passing with Morgan while Torsok screamed “pass it to
me! pass it to me!” The Griffith line was strangely held quiet by
a talented, but thugless, APMR squad. Bryce was only overheard yelling
about three times. And he never once pounded his chest while yelling
“I am Kong! Hear me roar!”
[reporters thought: Did I just type that?]
All three lines produced, but it was Jason
‘I’ve got more nicknames than you’ Torsok who drove
in the game winner late in the third. Even later, John
‘Grand’ Kenyon sealed APMR’s fate by netting a blast
past a screened goaltender (I told the goalie he looked like Hillary
Clinton — needless to say he was distracted).
It’s time to defend the shirt.
Friday’s championship game is at 8:00pm at
the Dublin Chiller. Ticketmaster expects a capacity crowd so tell your
friends and family to arrive early. OH! and remember the sign contest
— the winner will receive Tom Morgan’s lucky pair of long
johns!
